GS-441524 is a broad-spectrum antiviral drug targeting RNA viruses, which effectively inhibits the replication of feline coronavirus within the cat's body. Before Bova introduced this legal oral medication, most cats diagnosed with FIP faced extremely high mortality rates due to the lack of authorized specific treatments.

Formulations and administration

• Oral tablets: Typically available as 50 mg tablets, which can be administered whole, hidden inside treats, or crushed and mixed into a small amount of food.
• Administration tip:To maximize absorption, it is recommended to fast the cat briefly (e.g., withdraw food for 1 hour) before giving the medication, and wait at least 1 hour after administration before serving a full meal.

Treatment protocol and dosage adjustment

• Treatment duration: The traditional standard protocol requires continuous administration for 84 days (12 weeks). Treatment must not be stopped early just because clinical symptoms have improved. While some clinical studies have suggested a shorter 42-day protocol may suffice for certain cases of wet FIP, the exact duration must be determined by your primary veterinarian.
• Regular weigh-ins: As treatment succeeds, the cat's appetite will recover and weight will increase rapidly. You must weigh your cat weekly so the veterinarian can recalculate the dosage. Adjustments should follow a "step-up only" rule to prevent under-dosing.
