Vetmedin (pimobendan) Oral Solution is a prescription medication for managing congestive heart failure (CHF) in dogs. It is specifically indicated for CHF caused by myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) or dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).

Usage & Administration

  • Purpose: It acts as an "inodilator," meaning it simultaneously strengthens heart muscle contractions and dilates blood vessels to reduce the heart's workload.
  • Instructions: Administer directly into the dog's mouth; do not mix with food. Do not shake the bottle to avoid foaming.
  • Storage: Store at room temperature (at or below 77°F/25°C). Once opened, the bottle must be used within 8 weeks. 

 

Important Safety Information

  • Common Side Effects: Poor appetite, lethargy, diarrhea, and difficulty breathing (dyspnea).
  • Contraindications: Do not use in dogs with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or aortic stenosis.
  • Human Safety: Not for human use. Wash hands thoroughly after handling and avoid contact with eyes, as it may cause irritation.
