Canine heartworm is a nematode transmitted through mosquito bites, causing a disease known as canine heartworm disease. The adult worms are white and thread-like, parasitizing the heart, lungs, and related blood vessels of dogs.
They can survive in the dog's body for approximately 5-7 years, damaging heart and lung tissue, affecting blood circulation, and subsequently harming other organs.
